Embedded Software Engineer I
Smith+Nephew is a company that designs and manufactures technology aimed at improving patient outcomes. The Embedded Software Engineer I will work within the Sports Medicine R&D team to develop innovative embedded software for surgical endoscopic systems.
Responsibilities
- Designing and developing high quality C and C++ embedded software for medical devices used in sports medicine applications
- Developing proof of concepts to support endoscopic, surgical navigation and electromechanical products
- Owning the full lifecycle of software increments from requirements and acceptance criteria through to documentation and testing
- Collaborating with cross functional and multi site agile teams to define requirements and deliver value driven solutions
- Creating and maintaining automated testing and CI frameworks for embedded C and C++ codebases
- Supporting debugging, root cause analysis and promoting a quality first mindset in a regulated environment
Skills
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 0 to 3 years of experience developing embedded software using C and C++ on bare metal and or embedded Linux platforms
- Experience working with microcontrollers, RTOS or FPGA based systems and common hardware interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART or USB
- Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast paced, regulated development environment
- An understanding of CI CD pipelines, unit testing for embedded software and scripting using Python or Shell is beneficial
