[Remote] Staff Software Engineer

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The RealReal is the world’s largest online marketplace for authenticated, resale luxury goods. They are looking for a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to enhance and optimize their Sales & Retail platform, collaborating with cross-functional teams to build robust technical solutions that support sales associates and improve customer experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and development of software solutions, making strategic decisions that influence our technical direction
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align technology development with business objectives, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Perform rigorous code reviews and advocate for best coding practices to ensure our products are efficient and maintainable
• Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a culture of excellence
• Research emerging technologies and trends in software engineering, identifying opportunities to enhance our projects and processes
• Address complex technical challenges with innovative solutions, anticipating potential issues to ensure smooth project execution

Skills

• At least 8 years of software development experience
• Required experience with Java and Ruby
• Proven experience with the development, scaling, and maintenance of distributed systems
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, architectural design, and agile development methodologies
• Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to work independently on complex issues
• Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly and concisely
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of software development experience with a track record of successfully shipping consumer or business facing products
• Experience with Elixir is a plus
• Familiarity with Front-end JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
• Familiarity with Gradle and Spring Boot
• Familiarity with Python
• Familiarity with AWS
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub portfolio
