The Vice President, Distribution Center Operations is responsible for leading the strategic and operational performance of a multi-site distribution network, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while driving service excellence and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute regional distribution strategies that align with enterprise supply chain objectives and support business growth
  • Lead operational planning initiatives to improve service, efficiency, capacity utilization, and scalability across the distribution network
  • Partner with Supply Chain leadership to evaluate and implement network optimization opportunities
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the organization
  • Excellent change management capabilities and ability to lead thru change while protecting the network of risk
  • Provide executive oversight for multiple distribution centers, ensuring consistent execution of operational standards and company objectives
  • Ensure efficient and effective end-to-end distribution center operations, including receiving, inventory management, replenishment, shipping, and reverse logistics
  • Establish, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, service, safety, quality, inventory accuracy, and cost management
  • Identify operational challenges and implement corrective actions to improve performance and achieve business objectives
  • Champion a safety-first culture across all facilities, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement in workplace safety performance and associate well-being
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing warehouse operations, transportation, and labor practices
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks related to inventory, transportation, facilities, and workforce management
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Distribution Center General Managers and senior operational leaders
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on engagement, accountability, inclusion, and results
  • Create succession plans and leadership development strategies to strengthen organizational capability and support future growth
  • Foster an environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and associate development at all levels
  • Lead enterprise-wide continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean methodologies and operational excellence principles
  • Drive productivity improvements through process optimization, standardization, and technology adoption
  • Champion automation, warehouse systems enhancements, and innovative solutions that improve efficiency and service levels
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities and measure operational effectiveness
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with transportation providers, suppliers, and third-party logistics partners
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize supply chain performance and customer service outcomes
  • Participate in vendor negotiations and contract management activities to ensure competitive pricing, service levels, and operational effectiveness
  • Develop and manage operating budgets, capital expenditures, and strategic investments across the region
  • Ensure disciplined financial management and achievement of expense, productivity, and profitability targets
  • Evaluate business performance and provide recommendations to improve operational and financial results
  • Support long-range planning, capital projects, facility expansions, and network growth initiatives
  • Partner closely with Store Operations, Merchandising, Transportation, Inventory Management, Human Resources, Finance, and Asset Protection to align operational priorities and deliver business results
  • Serve as a key advisor and thought partner on supply chain strategy, workforce planning, and operational execution
  • Lead and support enterprise initiatives that improve customer experience and organizational performance

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 15+ years of progressive supply chain, logistics, or distribution center leadership experience
  • Minimum of 10 years leading large-scale, multi-site distribution operations in a senior leadership capacity
  • Proven experience leading complex distribution networks within retail, consumer goods, grocery, or high-volume distribution environments
  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience managing large operating budgets and capital investments
  • Experience leading transformational change initiatives and driving measurable operational improvements
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), labor management systems, automation technologies, and distribution operations
  • Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing teams across multiple locations
  • Exceptional communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of common food safety practices and audit procedures
  • Strong end to end distribution knowledge
  • Experience supporting large-scale retail or omnichannel distribution networks
  • Experience leading highly automated distribution facilities utilizing advanced storage, retrieval, packaging, and sorting technologies
  • Experience leading and servicing more than 5 billion dollars of supply chain and distribution
  • Excellent contingency planning and execution strategies
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or Operational Excellence certification
