[Remote] Freelance Software Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. AIM Sports Group is a technology platform powering athletes, coaches, and club directors across youth sports. They are seeking a Freelance Software Engineer to build and ship major platform releases, focusing on subscription and video features while ensuring performance and scalability.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship a major platform release this fall, spanning subscription and video features, on a fixed timeline
- Own the search-to-conversion funnel: player search, team search, athlete profiles, paywall, and checkout experience
- Build and maintain subscription billing: plans, plan changes, webhooks, and checkout flows
- Instrument conversion tracking and key events across the funnel (GA4, Stripe webhooks)
- Integrate and abstract third-party video and stats provider APIs so the platform is never coupled to a single vendor
- Contribute to athlete discovery and recruiting features on the roadmap
- Improve platform performance, reliability, and scalability, and contribute to API design and data architecture decisions
Skills
- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Laravel (PHP), our core stack
- Hands-on Stripe experience: subscription billing logic, webhooks, and checkout
- Demonstrated use of AI coding tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) as a native part of your workflow
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL)
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving, async-first environment
- Able to start quickly and commit through a fall release cycle
- US-based
- Background in sports tech, competitive volleyball, consumer SaaS, or marketplaces
- Familiarity with sports data, video streaming, or athlete management platforms
- Experience with analytics instrumentation (GA4, event tracking)
- Experience working with small founding teams or early-stage products
