Job Overview As a Senior Customs Trade Specialist at FedEx Logistics, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth clearance of complex and high-risk shipments through US Customs and other government agencies. This role requires a deep understanding of customs regulations, harmonized tariff schedules, and the ability to provide expert guidance to customers and internal stakeholders. You'll work closely with various departments, customers, and government agencies to deliver high-quality service, resolve issues, and drive compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate documentation required by US Customs and government agencies for the entry of complex and high-risk shipments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and tariff combinations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by engaging with customers regarding commodities that require specialized processing, classification, and duty preference applications to minimize the risk of liquidated damages and penalties.
  • Determine the correct classification of goods for customs release using databases, SOPs, tariff books, the internet, or customs resources.
  • Perform data entry and processing of various import-related documentation for submission to US Customs and participating government agencies (PGAs).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date shipment documentation in compliance with record-keeping requirements.
  • Adhere to international importing and exporting regulations, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal staff, departments, other FedEx OpCos, customers, and government agencies to deliver a high level of service to customers.
  • Process agency brokerage shipments, handle remote filings, and perform entry reconciliations as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to government and organizational policies, following up on customs matters and resolving problems.
  • Perform entry reviews, other duties as assigned, and contribute to the team's success.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • An associate's degree or equivalent experience, with a strong background in customs brokerage or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of brokerage experience, with at least 1 year of customer contact experience.
  • Proficient data entry and keyboard skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with customers, carriers, brokers, government agencies, and internal staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle a high volume of work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of customs regulations, harmonized tariff schedules, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, and office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner).

Preferred Qualifications

To further enhance your candidacy, you'll ideally have:

  • A Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification or a broker's license.
  • Experience working in a remote environment, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
