Remote Lead Insurance Underwriter

Our client, a respected and innovative provider of specialized insurance products, is seeking a highly experienced and analytical Remote Lead Insurance Underwriter to guide their underwriting operations. This is a critical, fully remote position that will involve leading a team, developing underwriting policies, and ensuring sound risk assessment for complex commercial policies. You will be essential in shaping the company's risk appetite and contributing to its financial stability. Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a team of insurance underwriters, providing guidance, training, and performance management. Develop, implement, and refine underwriting guidelines and procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy. Analyze complex insurance applications, financial statements, and risk factors to determine insurability and appropriate coverage terms. Set underwriting authority levels and review complex or high-value risks submitted by the team. Collaborate with actuaries and product development teams to assess market trends and develop new insurance products. Monitor the underwriting portfolio for adherence to risk appetite, profitability targets, and regulatory compliance. Identify and mitigate potential risks and fraud within applications. Serve as a subject matter expert on underwriting best practices and complex risk assessment. Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents, providing expert support and guidance. Participate in the development and implementation of underwriting systems and technology enhancements. Conduct regular audits of underwriting files to ensure quality and compliance. Prepare reports for senior management on underwriting performance, key trends, and portfolio analysis. Stay current with industry regulations, market conditions, and emerging risks. Contribute to strategic planning for the underwriting department and the company. Provide training to internal teams on insurance products and underwriting principles. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications (e.g., CPCU, CIC) are highly valued. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in insurance underwriting, with a significant focus on commercial lines of business. Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role, managing and developing an underwriting team. Deep understanding of risk assessment principles, financial analysis, and insurance contracts. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data sets and make sound underwriting decisions. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail. Proficiency in underwriting software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results in a remote environment. Familiarity with regulatory requirements within the insurance industry. Strategic thinker with a strong business acumen and a commitment to ethical practices. Experience in developing and implementing underwriting policies and procedures. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders. This is a fully remote role, with the operational focus and client base centered around Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, US .
